I have been super frustrated with a project I've been working on (sorry, I can't show pictures!) so I just pushed it all aside and made this. Rainbows make me feel better...the butterfly doesn't hurt either! Do any of you have any special tips/tricks/habits you use when a project feels stalled? I HAVE to finish this one, but all I want to do is *gasp* burn the fabric and forget it ever existed!

I don't have any tips but I love this mini quilt!!
Chocolate, and trying to crochet - that will make ANY sewing seem preferable when your fingers ache from making knots!
Love the mini xx
I don't finish projects that cause me grief in the same way I don't force myself to finish books I don't like. No use throwing good fabric after bad.
Oh I love this! As for things I don't love, if it absolutely has to be done, I take a deep breath and plough on through it, with a reward lined up for myself at the end!
chocolate, my favourite CD, preferable a glass of wine, and making myself just do it. Usually it's not that bad once I've started - it's the making myself start that's the trouble.
Love this project!
BTW did you still want to swap for my AMH? I keep meaning to ask you :)
O no don't burn the fabric!! LOL. I know what you mean though... I usually take a break and read blogs, they make me feel better. It will come to you soon!! :) I'm sure it looks great!
Can you switch to something else completely? I generally have to walk away from a project that is frustrating. Take a walk, have some coffee, watch a movie or go play with the kids helps me to forget about it for a bit. Then I can come back to it and get it done. Hope you find your second wind. :)
show a picture of it to a couple friends and get input if you're stuck... or think of a reward. :)
argh for frustrating projects!
have a sweet friend hold your hand while you figure out what to do next. ;)
is this the super secret project you told me about... ;)show me!
That's sweet I never manage to keep my writing that neat :) keep persisting though.
When I reach that point with a project I just leave it until feel enthused again to be honest. I find that thing's always look different the next day :D.
I think you did the right thing. Make something small and happy, while you give the project a good time out. I hope you feel better about it when you pick it up again, Kelly!
I run into this issue pretty often because my job-job requires a lot of creativity, but it's a different kind of creativity that when I'm working on something I really like.
Sometimes, I just have to push through because I'm on a deadline, but if I can spare a little time, I find it's best to step away for a while. For me, I can usually come back to it and get through if I've worked on something I love for a while. How long a break always varies, but I have to trust my gut and it will tell me when it's time to get back to it.
It's this reason why I'm very selective about the kinds of sewing and quilt projects I will take on. I've done two before on spec and I really struggled to finish either of them. Now, I only do what fits my style so I will enjoy it more.
Hang in there, girl!
Sorry you're in a rutt!
You've been on a roll lately too!
You can do it- just get it done and out of the way. Go Kelly go!
No tips for you, just sympathy. I bought fabric (expensive for me!) for my nephew's graduation quilt, cut out about 1/4th of the 525 3" squares and then realized I will go crazy sewing them all together. So I either need to come up with Plan B (preferred), forget the squares (I'm too hard-headed to do that), or just sew them together a few each week until I'm done. Hopefully your solution is less painful!
Cute project and I get that 'burn this' feeling... which is why I have a pile of UFO's I am trying to work through, with no flame.
Gorgeous! A perfect MoMo rainbow to brighten up anyone's day :)
I don't have any advice, but I sure love this mini!
